KM – Congenital Muscular Torticollis
10 diciembre, 2019 Juan Monreal

I am a 32 year old male from Canada that was born with Congenital Muscular Torticollis. I had two surgeries when I was younger, which involved the cutting and thinning of my SCM muscle in an attempt to lengthen it. Results were insignificant and I saw very little improvements. As a child I was teased for having a tilt to my head and even as an adult I still have people asking me what is wrong with my neck and shoulders. Over time as I have grown older, my opposite side shoulder and neck areas are cramping more often and causing discomfort. I tried several times to find treatment in Canada however I was told by doctors that no treatment is available for this condition anymore because it is not common and that I will just have to deal with it. I did not accept this answer and began researching other areas of the world for treatment. That is when I came across Dr. Monreal and began reading of his technique for treating Neglected Congenital Muscular Torticollis. I reached out to him and he was quick to respond with information on the procedure. I sent many questions regarding the procedure, my concerns, risks, etc. to Dr. Monreal since I was hesitant to travel to another country to perform a procedure not common in North America. Dr. Monreal responded to all of my questions promptly and with a great amount of care and detail to ensure I became comfortable with the procedure. Most importantly, I began to trust him without even meeting him in person due to his assistance in answering all of my questions. I eventually followed through with the procedure by travelling to Madrid from Canada. From the moment I met Dr. Monreal, I knew I was in good hands and was confident that I had made the right decision in travelling over 4500 km to have this procedure done. Following the surgery, I could see significant positive results immediately. I was almost in shock at the improvement of my head tilt directly after the surgery. I did not think it was possible to improve my head position after living with it for 32 years so I was in amazement over the initial results.
I was required to stay in Madrid for 5 days following surgery and Dr. Monreal showed great care in checking in with me consistently to see how I was recovering. I had a follow up appointment with Dr. Monreal before I flew home to Canada and he provided me with all the necessary information that I needed to ensure my recovery continued to go well. When I returned home, my wife could not believe her eyes when she seen the improvements to the position of my neck. It has been just over two weeks since surgery and I have gotten many compliments from colleagues and friends on the results of this procedure. I understand that it is still very early in the recovery stage however Dr. Monreal has assured me that results will likely only improve even more with physiotherapy. I am excited to continue to progress and view these results as life changing. Overall I would not hesitate to highly recommend Dr. Monreal. His professionalism and care for his patients is something I have not seen in Canada. I will forever be grateful for what Dr. Monreal has done for me and hope to visit him in the future when my Congenital Muscular Torticollis is nothing more than a faint memory for me
